cunning, baffling, powerful!

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AA-Alive.net) April 18, 2014 Alcoholism Alcoholism is deadly, ugly, and tough. It is also cunning, baffling, and powerful. It wants me to consider perfection attainable. . . It wants me to try to fix myself with the right therapist or the right religion. . . It wants me to forget that it is a snake in the brain, hoping to catch my eye, watching, waiting. The gritty pain of alcoholism is the traction of recovery. I cannot afford to sell off the principles for an easier, softer way. The Best of the Grapevine [Vol. 3], p. 165 Thought to Ponder . . . Alcohol -- cunning, baffling, powerful!

AA Thought for the Day - April 5, 2014

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AA-Alive.net) April 5, 2014 This Precious Gift None of us can ever fathom the glories and the uncharted regions of the universe. But we can live on earth and love one another. We can let in the beginnings of concern, compassion, consideration, and watch ourselves grow. With the tools and guideposts of Alcoholics Anonymous, we can learn a little of this precious gift -- our gateway to human spirituality. - Came To Believe . . ., p. 120 Thought to Ponder . . . March 15 DCM Report

District 8C DCM Report District Mtg. March 15,2014 Greetings to one and all, and thank you all for making the effort and commitment to being here at today's District mtg. As for my monthly Dist. Mtg. report don't have to much to report other than am making plans to attend next months Area 68 Pre-General Conference assembly to be held in Kerrville from April 11-13 20L4. I am also planning on staying at the La Quinta and not at the YO motel, I think we can get a better price. Am looking forward to attending as I have never attended a Pre-General Conference, I am sure it will be informative and lots of fun, and want to say thank you all for your continued support. Would also like to report that I made email contact with Linda D. our Area 68 PVCPC chair about her coming to our Dist and holding a workshop on May 24th, and she has that date open and said she would be happy to come down . I will be in contact with her as the date approaches. I would also like to say that I will continue to make an effort to continue to visit and make contact with the surrounding groups within our Dist. Hopefully we can get more support from the members within the groups. I have mentioned to the members of the 2nd Chance Group in Falfurrias that there is an opportunity to have another mtg in Premont, because at one time there was a registered group mtg there, but as of right now no one has stepped up to make that commitment. Once again thank you all for being here today, and this concludes my DCM report, and may God Bless till we meet again. Mario R. Area 68, District 8C, DCM

Awareness

Awareness
Yes, we're alcoholics.  Yes, it was vitally important that we come to that awareness.
Yes, we've got to be honest with ourselves and one another.
But we're more than alcoholics.  Much more.
We're alcoholics who are living sober lives!
Alcoholics who have a choice whether or not to take that first drink.
For the first time in our lives, we are really alive!
Our message is good news, and we need to say so.

District 8C Meeting 2-15-14 DCM Report

Dist. 8C Mtg.
Feb.15,2014
Greetings to all. Thank you all for making the effort and commitment in attending
today Dist. Mtg.
As for my report for todays mtg the main item is my attending the SWTA 68
Winter Workshop this past month, held from Jan.1L-L3 in New Braunfels. Am
happy to report that everything went very well, and had a great and informative
weekend. Also like to say thank you to Dist. 2 for hosting and doing a great job,
the hospitality room was located on the 3'd floor, so for me that kind of deterred
me a little from really attending, but I did make one visit there to check it out. As
for the parking, that was a little congested and you had to look for your spot, as
the attendance was high, but overall the hotel was good.
I chose not to stay there due to price and no pet policy, my wife Anna attended
also and we could not find a sitter for our 551b. pitbull named Kryptonite so he
had to come as well. 5o we stayed at a La Quinta a few blocks from where the
workshop was, and got a much better and cheaper rate than the Marriot, so I feel
we came out a winner all the way around. And am happy to report that Anna and
Kryptonite really enjoyed the trip as well.
The workshop was filled with very good attendance, very good speakers, and lots
of information through out the entire weekend. Many GSR's were in attendance,
a few for their first time and lots that had been before. A good number of DCM's
also attended as well. I gave my report on the first go around on Sat. morning.
The Area Officers and chairs gave their reports on Sat. morning as well before
everything kicked off. Throughout the weekend workshops were held on GSR,
Pl/CPC,Grapevine,Treatment,Newsletter,Archives,Corrections,Bilingual, DCM
reports were given throughout the weekend as well.
I had the pleasure of attending the PI/CPC, Corrections and Treatments
workshops which I thought were well dsne. Sat. was concluded with a speaker at
8pm and then the raffle afterwards

SWTA 68
2014 Winter Workshop

Mario Rodriguez, DCM Dist. 8C. The towns that make up Dist. 8C are as follows: Alice in Jim
Wells county, Kingsville,Riviera in Kleberg county, Falfurrias in Brooks county.
There are six groups in Dist. 8C that are actively supporting the District at this time, they are the
2nd Chance group in Falfurrias, Some Are Sicker Than Others group in Riviera, Al-K group Un Dia La Vez group in Kingsville, Alice group in Alice, and the Glossbrener group at the Glossbrener unit.
Committees currently active are PICPC, Webmaster, Bilingual ,CFC. We are still encouraging and
attempting to motivate more members to chair other committees, but due to the small size of our
District that can be a challenge. Our District has not been up and going for a long period of time, but am
pleased with what we have accomplished so far. We have been holding regular monthly District mtgs.
And am pleased how well we have worked together and united to get District 8C active again.
We are currently working on attempting to get workshops scheduled and working with the Area chairs
in assisting us in this endeavor. Also planning a pre Valentines day Banquet in Feb. to be hosted by the
2nd Chance group in Falfurrias.
Also look forward to continuing to visit the groups in the District, helping and assisting in any way that
we can as a District. And hopefully get more members involved to support the District as we need all the
support we can get.
Would also like to thank all the groups that support me and encourage me in attending the assemblies
and workshops, it has been a learning and enjoyable experience thus far. Would also like to thank
everyone at the Area as well for all the support and help we have received. Look forward to continuing
to serve and being your trusted servant, thank you all.
